Charting 7.0 and Greater Earthquakes from 1900 to Today

Last week I pointed out that Luke 21:11 suggests that we will hear about great earthquakes-rather than regular earthquakes-in diverse places prior to the Second Coming of Christ.

• Luk 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

I also provided two charts showing magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquake activity across different time periods from 1900 to today.

• These charts suggested that we have recently seen a historically high number of magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes in the timeframe (110 years) that we can account for.

Some people may argue that focusing solely on magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes causes us to ignore many major earthquakes that have transpired over the past several decades. Here are a couple of the many major earthquakes that were not accounted for in last week’s charts because they were below magnitude 8.0.

• Sichuan 2008 (7.9)
• Haiti 2010 (7.0)

I wanted to provide charts that included magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes last week, but I was unable to locate data accounting for magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes between 1900 and today when I published my article about great earthquakes from 1900 and today.

Fortunately, I found data over the weekend that enabled me to create a couple of charts that allow us to compare recent magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquake activity with past activity.

• Today I share these charts with you so you can see how recent magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquake activity compares with past activity.

I utilized two data sources to account for the magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes that have taken place since 1900.

• The U.S. Geological Survey’s Centennial Earthquake Catalog data set. I rely on this data set to account for magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes that have taken place from 1900-1972.

• The U.S. Geological Survey’s Preliminary Determination of Epicenters (PDE) data set. I rely on this data set to account for magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes that have taken place between 1973 and today.

The following graph illustrates magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquake activity each year from 1900 to today (link to the chart in case you are unable to see it on your screen).

The above graph somewhat resembles a pulse monitor graph with periods of relatively high activity and periods of relatively low activity. The year 2010 experienced a relatively high number of magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes (22 versus a historical average of 15.72), but it was not a record-setting year.

• Nine magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes have already occurred in less than three complete months in 2011. If this pace continues we would have 36 magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes this year, which would be an all-time record.

I created a second chart comparing magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquake activity across different decades to see how last decade’s activity compares to other decades in the past (link to the chart in case you are unable to see it on your screen).

Surprisingly, there was below average magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquake activity last decade. In fact, last decade had the second lowest number of magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes since 1900 (excluding 2010 to today).

• The number was brought down by several below average years between 2000 and 2008. However, 2009 was an above average year in terms of magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquake activity (17), and the above average activity has continued into this current decade.

Today’s graph and chart do not completely mesh with the magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquake charts from last week. Today’s graph and chart suggest we may not be living in an extraordinary period of major earthquake activity while the magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquake charts suggests that we’ve seen a historically high number of major earthquake activity recently. Thus, how a person depicts recent great earthquake activity depends on whether they use “magnitude 7.0 and greater” or “magnitude 8.0 and greater” to define what a “great earthquake” is.

• One could argue that “magnitude 8.0 and greater” better defines what a “great earthquake” is than “magnitude 7.0 and greater” since magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes are much rarer (and thus much more distinguished) than magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes.

Again, it remains to be seen whether we will see an increasing number of great earthquakes in the coming years, but the number of great earthquakes should increase in the coming years if we are approaching the End Times…

Charting Great Earthquake Activity Since 1900

A couple of days ago I pointed out that Luke 21:11 suggests that we will hear about great earthquakes-rather than regular earthquakes-in diverse places prior to the Second Coming of Christ.

• Luk 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

I also said that I would not disagree with people who argue that we have heard about great earthquakes in diverse places recently given the reports of strong earthquakes impacting various places around the world in recent years...

I was curious whether the number of great earthquakes in recent years is comparable to another time period in the past. Yesterday I located some data about past great earthquakes and created a couple of charts that enable us to compare recent years with the past.

• Today I share these charts with you so you can see how great earthquake activity in recent years compares with the past.

I utilized the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) data of magnitude 8 and greater earthquakes since 1900 to create the following chart comparing the number of 8.0+ magnitude and greater earthquakes across different time periods from the year 1900 to today. (link to the chart in case you are unable to see it on your screen):[1]

You will notice that there is no apparent trend in the number of magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes since 1900. However, the chart does show that there has been a record number of magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes over the past decade or so.

A skeptic could argue that the results in the above chart are influenced by how I chose to distinguish each time period.

• For instance, I used the period between 2001 to today to define a time period instead of 2000 to 2009 to define a time period…

To address this potential issue, I created this second chart comparing the number of magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes across different decades from 1900 to today (link to the chart in case you are unable to see it on your screen):

Like the first chart, you will notice that there is no apparent trend in the number of magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes since 1900. However, the second chart does show that we saw a record number of magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes from 2000-2009 and we already are off to a quick start in this current time period.

The above charts suggest we are living in a period where there are a historically high number of magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes around the world.

• However, we should recognize that we are only able to compare time periods over the past several decades. We do not have the data to compare recent years with other time periods over the past 2,000 years…

• Nevertheless, we can say that we have recently seen a historically high number of magnitude 8.0 and greater earthquakes in the timeframe (111 years) that we can account for.

It remains to be seen whether we will see an increasing number of great earthquakes in the coming years, but the number of great earthquakes should increase in the coming years if we are approaching the End Times…

An Easy to Understand Video Explaining What Happened at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant

It’s been difficult for me to monitor the Japan’s nuclear crisis with any solid grasp of what is actually happening because many news articles fail to provide an introductory explanation of what happened at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant before reporting on what is taking place there now.

• It’s even harder to fully understand what is going on when watching coverage of the crisis on television because the news anchors often provide the latest information and conduct interviews with experts under the assumption that the viewing audience already knows about everything that has happened and understands what the latest information means.

The following short video has helped me to gain a much greater understanding of what happened at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. Link I thought I would share this video since this is not an easy subject to understand for many people, including myself.

The video mentions that fuel rods can melt if they cannot be cooled, but does not explain why melting fuel rods are a problem.

• The sense I got after reading this article is that radioactive material is released when the fuel rods melt.

The article also notes that the vast majority of fuel rods at the plant are located in storage pools, and that the (spent) fuel rods in the storage pools pose a greater threat than the fuel rods inside the reactor cores.

• This would explain why the Japanese are attempting to spray water in the storage pools via helicopter and water cannon: they are trying to cool down the (spent) fuel rods in the storage pool with the temperature-modifying effects of water.

I hope the video above helps people to better understand why there are major problems at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant and helps people to better understanding the information that comes out in the future about the situation at the plant. I hope and pray that the brave Japanese workers who are risking their lives to keep the situation under control are successful…

Luke 21:11: The Nature of Birth Pangs Earthquakes

The earthquake in Japan, the subsequent tsunami, and the ongoing nuclear crisis is a great human tragedy that is never going to be forgotten.

I’m sure many of you are not only thinking about the people in Japan but also how this tragedy fits in context of where we are in relation to the start of the End Times…

Last night I searched for the words “earthquake” and “earthquakes” in a Bible software program I use to see how often these words appear in the Bible. The results were as followed:

• The word “earthquake” appears in thirteen verses, including five verses in the Book of Revelation.

• The word “earthquakes” appears in three verses associated with the Olivet Discourse.

During my review of verses that contain the words “earthquake” or “earthquakes” I noticed a detail relating to earthquakes that I had not noticed before…

• Today I’ll discuss this detail just in case other people are unaware it.

Recall that Christ warned us that there will be earthquakes in diverse places before His Second Coming. The most frequently cited passage describing Christ's warning that there will be earthquakes in diverse places is found in Matthew 24:

• Mat 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
• Mat 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
• Mat 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Mark 13:8 records a similar warning:

• Mar 13:8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

Luke 21 provides a third account of Christ’s warning that there will be earthquakes in diverse places. However, Luke noted that Christ used an adjective to describe the nature of the earthquakes that people will hear about:

• Luk 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

The Greek word for “great” is “megas”, which means big, exceedingly, large, and mighty. Therefore, the word basically describes the magnitude of the earthquakes that people will hear about in diverse places.

• People are supposed to hear about great or large-magnitude earthquakes occurring in many places prior to the Second Coming of Christ-not ordinary earthquakes.

Based on recent events I would not disagree with people who say that we are hearing about great earthquakes taking place in diverse places. The following is a list of some of the 7.0 or greater earthquakes that have affected people in the past few years:

• Japan (March 11, 2011): 9.0
• Chile (February 27, 2010): 8.8
• China (May 12, 2008): 7.9
• Baja California Earthquake (April 4, 2010): 7.2
• Christchurch[1] (September 4, 2010): 7.1
• Haiti (January 12, 2010): 7.0

I currently believe that what we are seeing is likely associated with the beginning of birth pangs. I expect there is likely going to be increasing large-magnitude earthquake activity as we approach the start of the End Times…

Regardless of whether I'm right or wrong concerning this topic, my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan. I hope and pray that there is not a nuclear catastrophe...

One Aspect of the Tunisian Uprising May Provide a Glimpse of the Future

One of the most widely-reported world news stories over the past several days concerns the uprising in Tunisia. If you have not heard about the Tunisian uprising, I have a found a couple videos that’ll provide you some background information about why it is taking place: Link 1 Link 2

The President of Tunisia Eventually Fled the Country

In Bible prophecy terms, the uprising in Tunisia is an event that is consistent with what we should see as the seventieth week of Daniel approaches (the seven year period that most people refer to as the “tribulation”) which is an increase in commotions/political instability (Luke 21:9). However, I believe the Tunisian uprising is more meaningful than just a simple uprising... I believe one aspect of the Tunisian uprising may show us how revolutions of the future might be facilitated.

The uprising in Tunisia is striking because it has not been directed by a single leader, which makes this uprising a rather unique one since uprising/revolutions are usually led by a leader. Instead, there were many Tunisians who collectively rose up against their oppressive regime with help of social media to get the word out. Many news websites report that social media websites like Facebook and Twitter played an important role in helping news and information about the status and nature of the uprising spread throughout the country and around the world.

• The role that social media played in the uprising in Tunisia may be relevant in understanding what might take place elsewhere in the future…

In late 2009 I read a report issued by the U.S. Army War College’s Strategic Studies Institute from the Year 2000 about the potential role that the information revolution (the rapidly increasing ability for people to obtain and send information cheaply) could play in facilitating future conflict. The report stated the following about the role the information revolution could play in promoting stability or promoting instability:

“The information revolution is both a force for stability and for instability. On the positive side, it complicates the task of old-style repression and facilitates the development of grass roots civil society. But the information revolution also allows organizations intent on instability or violence to form alliances, thus making the world more dangerous”.[1]

The leaderless uprising in Tunisia suggests that the information revolution has evolved (with the rise of social media websites, which enable people to quickly send and receive information at virtually no cost) to a point where it is finally a force that can play a role in promoting stability and instability.

• I think it is far likelier that we'll see social media be used as a tool to promote political instability than promote political stability in the coming years. If the global economic and financial system breaks down as I suspect it will based on how poor of fiscal shape many countries are in, I expect people around the world will utilize social media websites as an important tool to organize protests and opposition groups to promote change in the way their government functions.

• The Tunisian case may be a forerunner of the instability that is going to come…

Arabic leaders and the media are closely watching for signs that the unrest is spreading to other countries.

• A report on Monday suggested that men in Egypt, and Mauritania, Algeria have set themselves on fire as a way to protest their displeasure with their respective governments (the Tunisian uprising was helped inspired by a Tunisian youth setting themselves on fire).

I don’t know if uprisings will spread throughout the Arab world like uprisings spread throughout Central and Eastern Europe following the end of Communism in Poland in 1989. However, I am confident that there is going to be a lot of political instability in the future and that the Internet/social media will play a role in facilitating this instability by helping people who oppose their regimes to quickly spread information about rising dissent like people did in Tunisia.

A Historical Precedent for Man-Made Famine

Many people think about bad weather and crop-killing diseases (like Ug99) as factors that will be responsible for causing widespread famine in the future. Some people also cite potential energy shortages, water shortages, and war as other factors that could lead to widespread famine. I believe all of these events are factors that could contribute to widespread future famine, which is inevitable since the Bible tells us that we will see famines in the birth pangs period.

• Mat 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
• Mat 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

In addition, I would not rule out the possibility for some food shortages to be purposely exasperated or engineered by man-made decisions.

• It might seem difficult or crazy to envision that someone would be cruel enough to purposely create a famine or exasperate an existing one. However, such a scenario is not impossible because it has actually happened before. Today I’ll discuss an instance where a man was cruel enough to purposely starved millions of people to advance his agenda.

Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, a man who most likely was demon-possessed, deliberately engineered a famine in the Ukraine and in other areas of the Soviet Union that led to several million deaths in the early 1930s. There are several explanations on what the causes of the famine were, but a commonality in these explanations is that Stalin had a big role in making the situation in the Soviet Union really bad.

Stalin engineered the widespread famine to punish the peasantry throughout the Soviet Union for their perceived lack of cooperation in following his plans. Stalin believed that the collectivization of agriculture was the key to maximizing the Soviet Union’s grain production. Many peasants were against Stalin’s idea because they owned land and did not share Stalin’s Communistic vision. The peasants resisted collectivization by destroying crops and by slaughtering hundreds of millions of farm animals, especially in the Ukraine.[1] Stalin was enraged with the peasants’ defiance and sought to starve the peasants as an act of revenge and as method to eliminate the resistance to his plans.

Stalin eventually was able to force the peasants to surrender their land to the state and to work on collective farms. However, Stalin wasn’t done making the lives of the now enslaved peasantry miserable… The secret police seized peasants’ food and continued to routinely raid homes and villages to seize any new food that the peasants hid. In addition, Stalin ordered the deportation or execution of those who resisted his brutal policies. Unsurprisingly, the grain output declined as the inefficiencies of collectivization and the inefficiencies of forcing starving people to work against their will set in. Much of the grain that was produced was not given to the starving farmers… it was exported to other countries. A person couldn’t even eat a tiny portion of the grain they picked from the fields without risk getting executed. Consequently, food was extremely difficult to find in many areas throughout the Soviet Union.

People did plead to Stalin to stop starving millions of people, but Stalin showed hardly any remorse. Stalin once said to a group of Ukrainian officials that “The Ukraine has been given more than it should” after they begged Stalin for food.[2] Stalin actually made it even harder for starving people to survive as calls for help became louder. For instance, Stalin introduced internal passport polices that made escape from famine-stricken regions in the Soviet Union nearly impossible.

The man-made famine, known as Holodomor in the Ukraine, was so bad that many people turned to cannibalism.[3] Death from starvation was a high probability if a person did not resort to extreme methods to obtain or find subsistence.

I wanted to share this tragic historical example so that people do not dispel the notion that leaders can be cruel enough to purposely engineer a famine to advance their own purposes. They can and at least one leader will do so in the future…

The Antichrist is going to be cruel enough to purposely starve people in order to advance his own agenda. Revelation 6:5-6 suggests that there is likely going to be some sort of rationing system in place to control the world’s food supply. I suspect the Antichrist is going to be the one who imposes the rationing system…

• Rev 6:5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
• Rev 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

Revelation 13:17 provides further evidence that Antichrist is likely going to limit how food is distributed during his reign. People will be prohibited from buying or selling items like food if they do not have the Mark of the Beast, the name of the beast, or the number of the beast’s name.

• Rev 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
• Rev 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

People who refuse to have the Mark of the Beast, the beast’s name, or the number of the beast’s name will experience their own personal famine. Without the ability to legally buy or sell food, these people are likely going to struggle to find or obtain food unless they’ve prepared in advance.

• The Antichrist likely hopes that the painful effects of starvation will be so severe that rebels will capitulate to his demands and accept the Mark of the beast, the name of the beast, or the number of the beast’s name. It’s a Stalinesque policy that will test many people’s willingness to die for their beliefs.

It would be wise to keep some extra food in reserve to protect yourself against the threat of natural or man-made famine in the future. You never know how long food may be unavailable for during an emergency-natural or man-made…

Ug99 (Stem Rust): A Potential Future Driver of Famine

The Bible warns us that famine is one of the signs we will see during the birth pangs period:

• Mat 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
• Mat 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

I’m sure many people who monitor current events for signs that the End Times are approaching are drawn to news reports about the rapidly rising food prices, the United Nation’s warning that food prices are nearing crisis levels, and the emerging social unrest in countries that are most sensitive to the rapidly rising cost of food.

• Monitoring these recent developments is wise because this rising food prices situation can lead to much greater instability in the world if it continues. However, I would not yet say that what's going on is unprecedented since there was also a major food crisis in 2007-2008 (which quietly died down by the end of 2008). It’s still too early to determine whether we have something unprecedented now…

As news reports focus on rising food prices, a disease that may be capable of becoming a future driver of famine is very quietly spreading...

Today I want to alert people about a dangerous disease that is destroying wheat fields in several regions of the world called Ug99, a strain of stem rust.

• Ug99 is capable of infecting 80-90% of the varieties of wheat in existence.

• Ug99 can kill an entire week crop within a few weeks after it infects a crop.

• Ug99 is a major concern for scientists because it is capable of traveling long distances via wind. Wind has enabled Ug99 to spread from Africa to the Middle East and perhaps soon to Southwest Asia.

The following short videos should be sufficient in providing you a solid background about what Ug99 is and how formidable it can be:

The more Ug99 spreads the likelier it is that we could see grain shortages eventually. Imagine what could happen if stem rust managed to spread to the Midwest of the United States, Europe, and Russia, three of the world’s most important wheat growing regions…

I heard about Ug99 while listening to a podcast interview about global weather conditions during the summer last year. I did not mention Ug99 on the blog then because I thought the disease would quickly become common knowledge as it continued to destroy wheat crops.

I was very surprised by how few views these videos have received since they were produced last year. It’s an indication that very few people are aware that Ug99 exists and the danger that it can potentially pose someday soon. Hopefully, a lot more people are aware about stem rust/Ug99 after today…

Another Critique of the Blood Moon Rapture Theory

I noticed my Blood Moon Rapture theory critique recently became the top article listed on Google relating to the search terms “Blood Moon Rapture”. This development has led to a big a boost in new visitors to the blog. For newer readers who haven’t heard about the theory, here is a quick summary of what the Blood Moon Rapture theory is:

The Blood Moon Rapture theory (or Red Moon Rapture theory) posits that the Second Coming of Christ is likely going to occur in 2014 or 2015 when there will be four consecutive, total lunar eclipses or a tetrad. These total lunar eclipses will coincide with two major holidays on the Jewish calendar in 2014 and 2015: Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkoth). Here are the major dates below:

The Next Set of Total Lunar Eclipses that Coincide With Jewish Holiday Periods

• April 15, 2014: Nisan 15 (Passover)
• October 8, 2014: Tishri 14
• April 4, 2015: Nisan 15 (Passover)
• September 28, 2015: Tishri 15: (Sukkoth)

Supporters of this theory believe the Rapture is likely going to take place on one of the days which will have a total lunar eclipse.

There are a few verses in the Bible that describe the moon turning red or into blood just prior to the Rapture.

• Joe 2:30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
• Joe 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

• Rev 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
• Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

The Blood Moon theory attracts a lot of proponents because these total lunar eclipses are capable of turning the moon into the color of blood (hence the term “blood moon”). In addition, the fact that these total lunar eclipses will occur on important Jewish holidays makes people wonder if something really important is going on.

In my previous critique I cited my Rapture viewpoint and my viewpoint on our proximity to the End Times as my reason why I did not believe in the theory. Today I want to critique the theory again, but in a far more analytical way using historical and scientific data for those who do not agree with my Rapture position and my viewpoint our proximity to the End Times.

The idea that something could happen during a Jewish holiday period has some appeal since there can be some symbolism involved. However, it’s not unprecedented for a total lunar eclipse to occur during a Jewish holiday period. In fact, this coincidence has taken place several times in the past fifty years. Below is a list of total lunar eclipses that have taken place during Jewish Holiday periods over the past fifty years.

Recent Total Lunar Eclipses that Coincided With Jewish Holiday Periods

• April 24, 1967: Nisan 14
• October 18, 1967: Tishri 14
• April 13, 1968: Nisan 15 (Passover)
• October 6, 1968: Tishri 14
• April 24, 1986: Nisan 15 (Passover)
• October 17, 1986 Tishri 14
• April 4, 1996: Nisan 15 (Passover)
• September 27, 1996: Tishri 14

The dates above suggest we are not guaranteed the Rapture when a total lunar eclipse occurs during a Jewish holiday period. This type of event has taken place several times in the past without anything Earth-shattering taking place.

• Some people might point out that some important events regarding Israel did take place in 1967, but those events did not take place when there was total lunar eclipse.

• Some people might point out that it’s going to be a long time before we have another total lunar eclipse coincide with a Jewish holiday after 2015. The rebuttal I have for that point is: “Where in the Bible does it specifically say that the Rapture must take place at a time of a total lunar eclipse?” Sure the moon’s appearance changes, but a total lunar eclipse isn’t the only thing that can make the moon’s appearance change like that…

Another issue that I have with the Blood Moon Rapture theory is that the upcoming total lunar eclipses are going to have limited visibility across the world. NASA’s maps of who will see these upcoming total lunar eclipse and who will not reveal that large segments of the world’s population will not see each of the upcoming total lunar eclipses during Jewish holiday periods. Here is a brief overview of who will not see the upcoming total lunar eclipses (when you click the links over the day a map should popup in another tab/window on your browser):

April 15, 2014: Nisan 15 (Passover)

• The Middle East, most of Asia, eastern parts of Africa, and most of Europe will be unable to see the total lunar eclipse.

October 8, 2014: Tishri 14

• The Middle East, Europe, and Africa will be unable to see the total lunar eclipse.

April 4, 2015: Nisan 15 (Passover)

• Europe, Africa, and nearly the entire Middle East will be unable to see the total lunar eclipse.

September 28, 2015: Tishri 15: (Sukkoth)

• Most of Asia and all of Australia will be unable to see the total lunar eclipse

NASA’s maps demonstrate that many people won’t see the moon turn “blood red” as a result of a total lunar eclipse. This means that if you believe that the Rapture will take place at a time of a total lunar eclipse you must also accept the idea that there will be people who will be unable to see the moon turn into “blood” at the time of the Rapture. This is a difficult idea for me to accept because Revelation 6:12-17 suggests that everyone on Earth at that time will see the events following the opening of the sixth seal take place:

• Rev 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
• Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
• Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
• Rev 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
• Rev 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
• Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Consequently, I do not believe the change in the moon’s appearance is due to a total lunar eclipse. A total lunar eclipse is unlikely going to be the event that turns the moon’s appearance into “blood” at the time of the sixth seal as billions of people won’t even notice that a total lunar eclipse is taking place…

• Three out of Four of the upcoming total lunar eclipses during Jewish holiday periods won't even be visible to the Middle East. You'd think that people in the Middle East would see the moon turn into "blood" during the sixth seal since that's where much of the action is taking place...

This is probably not my last critique of the Blood Moon Rapture theory because I have a theory of my own about what causes the moon’s appearance to change. I’ll save that topic for another day…

Holographic Images of the Beast? Revelation 13:14-15

Last week IBM announced a series of predictions about what technologies we could see developed within the next five years. One of the predictions IBM made is that we could see holographic image technology on cell phones which may enable users to interact with 3D holograms of the individual(s) they are talking to.

I told my dad about the technology and he immediately tried to link this potential technological development to the image of the beast mentioned in Revelation 13:14-15.

• Rev 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
• Rev 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

The idea he posited is that people could use holographic technology to create 3D holographic images of the beast to worship. Today I’ll share my initial thoughts about his hypothesis (you’re actually going to hear them before he does).

I’ve thought about the idea of people worshipping holographic images of the beast, but I don’t know how feasible it is. The main issue I have with this idea is that Revelation 13:15 says the False Prophet will give "life" to the image of the beast. How can a holographic projection be given life?

• In my article about fallen angels vs demons article, I cite Revelation 9:18-21 and Revelation 13:14 as potential evidence that demons could inhabit images or idols that people worship. In this case, demons would inhabit physical objects, which is not impossible for them since they are recorded in the Bible to have possessed individuals. In contrast, people would not be worshiping something physical if they utilize 3D holographic images of the beast. It’s hard to see how a demon would have the ability to possess an illusion.

• Scientists are developing moving 3D holograms, but it’s hard for me to see right now how a moving 3D hologram could be equated with being given "life"… The False Prophet giving "life" to images of the beast could easily be one of the deceptions he uses to fool people into worshipping Antichrist. However, I don't know if people would be so easily deceived if they relied on holographic technology to worship the beast since more people each day are becoming aware that moving holograms is becoming a real technological possibility.

Another issue I have with the idea is that the image of the beast has the ability to kill people who refuse to worship it. If people are worshipping holographic images of the beast it’s hard for me to imagine how these images would know when a person is refusing to worship them. In contrast, if a demon inhabited a physical image or idol of the beast it could detect when someone refuses to worship it and perhaps alert a person of someone’s insubordination.

I think it’s far more likely that the followers of the Antichrist will print out images of the beast from their printers or make idols (if they have the skill to make one) than to worship 3D holograms of the Antichrist. I could be wrong though because I don’t know what the full potential of this technology is going to be yet-no one does because it’s in the early stages of its development.

Feel free to comment if you have any idea how this technology could be used by Antichrist in the End Times or have a better idea how this technology could work than me. It’s something I’ve been wondering about…

The U.N. May Be Slowly Advancing Towards Regulating the Internet

I had planned to focus on another topic today, but today’s report that the United Nations is contemplating the creation of an inter-governmental “working group” to synchronize efforts to regulate the Internet changed my focus today because that is the big story of the day and perhaps the week.

• Based on the U.N.’s general definition of a “working group”, this potential new group would develop general recommendations to policymakers on how to improve their efforts to regulate the Internet and potentially how to coordinate these efforts.

The report says that the Brazil is spearheading the U.N. efforts “specifically in reaction to challenges such as WikiLeaks”. A representative from Brazil reportedly said that the efforts aren’t an attempt to “takeover” the Internet, but what else would you expect the representative to say? The representative cannot openly say that they are taking over the Internet because that could lead to a massive public uprising.

The report also says that countries like Saudi Arabia and China support the idea of creating a working group focused on regulating the Internet.

• These two countries are not exactly the vessels of freedom (especially China, who censors the Internet), so anyone who likes freedom should be alarmed by these countries endorsement of the idea to create such a working group.

The report suggests that countries like the U.S. and the U.K. oppose the idea of creating a government member-only working group, but don’t oppose the idea of creating a body to regulate the Internet in general. These countries prefer to see industry and public representation in the working group too.

Fortunately, the U.N. is fairly impotent at the moment because it is currently up to individual countries to decide whether to go along with the U.N.’s recommendations or not. Therefore, the recommendations a new working group focused on regulating the Internet comes up with would unlikely be implemented forcibly yet. However, a time is coming when the working group’s recommendations may be implemented forcibly…

When I review sources that contain statements from the spiritual forces of evil I notice that they talk a lot about how there are groups of elites from different fields (like politics, economics, finance, science, etc) working to create plans for eventually usage in a one-world government scenario and how the U.N. is going to play a big role in a one-world governing system. If the spiritual forces of evil are not lying about this (which is a big IF since they do have the tendency to lie a lot), then a new U.N. working group designed to provide recommendations to policymakers on how to regulate the Internet could conceivably also serve as the group that devises the plan to regulate the Internet under a one-world government scenario under the control of Antichrist. If this is the case (which is another big IF), then we could be witnessing the early stages of a significant attempt to regulate the Internet in the future.

• It’s probably still too early to definitely say that this potential new working group is going to or is not going to be part of a significant attempt to regulate the Internet this since the working group hasn’t even been created yet. However, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be at least somewhat suspicious of the U.N.’s intentions given who supports the U.N.’s efforts.

• I don’t think it’s unreasonable to believe that the Internet is going to be regulated when the Antichrist is around since he will want complete control of information. He would not want information out there that challenges/undermines his authority and information that exposes his attempts and his minions’ attempts to deceive people.

The Internet is the key information provider and information delivery system that exists today. Without the Internet I would be unable to conduct much of my research and I definitely would be unable to share my findings with the world. I know in the back of my mind that one day this blog and others like it may no longer exist because it could either be too dangerous to continue running them and/or these websites could be shut down by some governing body. We have a limited window of opportunity to warn and educate people about what is coming because there appears to be forces at work planning to cut off the free flow of information…

The Edible Microchip is in Development (Video)

Last night I watched an old video news report about how injectable microchips-once used for tracking lost pets-are now being injected into humans to track their medical records. Naturally, the idea of injecting a microchip into someone’s body has a lot of opponents because the microchip could easily become a tool of government surveillance or worse…

A few days ago the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) posted a video of scientists working on a new technology that might someday enable a future world leader to get microchips inside of people in a far less overt way. The video shows the reporter wearing a data receiver patch on his arm. I’ve read that another option developers have considered is to have the receiver inserted underneath a person’s skin…

According to a recent CBS article, the new technology is currently being marketed by its developers (Proteus Biomedical) as a technology that will help people and doctors know whether people are taking their medicine and a technology that will help track/monitor physical information.

The Daily Mail reports the European Union has given a stamp of approval on the technology and that Britain’s National Health System (NHS) may soon begin to evaluate this technology for potential use on a widespread basis.

The technology is still being developed, but I imagine that it can have much greater uses than tracking people’s medical information someday. The edibility of the microchip seems to be the big innovation here because it is a new delivery system for the microchip to enter the body. However, a couple of issues scientists might have to overcome if this edible microchip is going to a long-lasting information tracker are: 1) preventing the microchip from being destroyed by stomach acid 2) preventing the body from expelling the microchip. I hope they don’t discover solutions for these issues…

Revelation 13 states that the False Prophet will force people to get a special (visible) mark on their right hand or on their forehead. Although the mark will enable a person to conduct transactions, a person could get by with having beast’s number or the name of the beast (verse 17).

• Rev 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
• Rev 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

The fact that a person can also buy or sell by using the name of the beast or the number of the beast shows that people do not obtain the Mark of the Beast so that they buy or sell. The Mark of the Beast’s main purpose is to serve as a way for people to prove that their allegiances lie with Antichrist. In other words, accepting the Mark of the Beast means that you have declared yourself a follower of the Antichrist and thereby an opponent of God.

• I do not see microchip technology as the “Mark of the Beast” per se if the microchip is going to placed inside of someone’s body since it wouldn’t be visible if it was inside a person’s body. HOWEVER I can definitely see microchip technology play a supporting role in the Mark of the Beast system (maybe a person gets a visible mark on their right hand/forehead and gets a microchip inserted inside their body so their information/whereabouts can be tracked). Whether an edible microchip plays a significant role versus an injectable microchip remains to be seen…

I wonder if this new technology will attract people’s attention as quickly as the concept of implantable microchips did. I did not hear about this technology or encounter the BBC video about this topic until I randomly searched for recent videos with the word “microchip” in their title on Youtube this morning.

U.N. Official Admits Climate Policies Are Meant to Redistribute the World's Resources

I imagine a lot of readers are suspicious about the United Nations (U.N.)-directed fight against global warming/climate change. I’ve long held the suspicion that the U.N.-led fight against global warming was simply an excuse to gain control over people and resources. It’s been difficult for me to see the U.N.’s efforts to combat so-called “anthropogenic global warming” or “climate change” as solely an effort to combat the heating of the planet in the aftermath of Climategate and in light of scientific evidence that suggests recent climate change can be largely explained by natural phenomenon (i.e. the fluctuation in solar variation).

Recently, Ottmar Edenhofer, a German economist and member of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) admitted that climate policy is really an effort to redistribute the world’s resources. Here is Edenhofer’s most revealing comment from a recent interview that you can read here:

“First of all, developed countries have basically expropriated the atmosphere of the world community. But one must say clearly that we redistribute de facto the world's wealth by climate policy. Obviously, the owners of coal and oil will not be enthusiastic about this. One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy anymore, with problems such as deforestation or the ozone hole”.

Edenhofer even goes as far as to call next month’s world climate summit in Cancun, Mexico (interesting that they decide to hold a summit at a tropical resort city instead of the North Pole) “one of the largest economic conferences since the Second World War” and not a “climate conference”.

One could argue that Edenhofer is a rogue official, but the U.N. wouldn’t name him as a member of the IPCC unless he shared the views of other IPCC members. The U.N. cannot be thrilled that one of their members was so transparent about perhaps the real motivation behind climate policy.

Some Perspective on the Report that Europe Will Experience the Coldest Winter in 1000 Years

I learned about the Gulf Stream’s impact on global climate when I began my undergraduate education as an Atmospheric Science major. My professors spoke about how the Gulf Stream was the main reason why Europe experiences relatively warm temperatures given its high latitude. My professors also spoke about several times in history when the planet entered into mini-ice ages after the Gulf Stream slowed down or stopped transporting its heat to Europe. Since I learned about the importance of the Gulf Stream I have periodically monitored its strength because a major slowdown or a complete disruption of the Gulf Stream would have dramatic consequences on the planet.

A Russia Today (RT) report is attracting a lot of attention on the Internet. The report cites scientists who are boldly predicting that Europe will experience the coldest winter in a 1000 years. The report claims that the forecast is connected with a startling finding made by Polish scientists. Polish scientists reportedly claim that the Gulf Stream’s speed has slowed by 50% within the last couple of years.

After I read the story I searched throughout the Internet for a story where the Polish scientists actually presented their evidence. Unfortunately, all I was able to find were a few articles from September that did not include the evidence that the Polish scientists used to make their statement.

However, the September articles did reveal that these scientists work for Poland’s Institute of Meteorology and Water Management. I went to Institute of Meteorology and Water Management’s website to see if they had a report which showed their evidence. Unfortunately, the website does not have a report about this important issue.

The September articles also included something that Russia Today’s report failed to mention (I don’t know if the omission was on purpose or on accident). The September articles mentioned that the Polish scientists’ finding was refuted by NASA’s recent finding that the Gulf Stream’s current has experienced no noticeable change in strength over the past several years.

I am aware that an Italian nuclear physicist claimed that the BP Oil Spill disrupted the Loop Current, which is a transporter of warm water into the Gulf Stream. I actually reviewed the website where the nuclear physicist found the maps to make his eye-catching conclusion. The latest satellite images (Link 1, Link 2) of the Gulf of Mexico suggest that the Loop Current is back to normal and that the BP Oil spill did not permanently disrupt the Loop Current (I may post comparison images if enough people request to see them and if I have enough time).

Therefore, I am unsure whether to believe the report about how Europe is going to experience the coldest winter in 1000 years because the Gulf Stream’s current has supposedly been slowed by half. However, it is wise to be aware of what might happen if the Gulf Stream stops transporting heat to Europe. The Pentagon commissioned a study in 2003 about what might happen if there is a major change in the Gulf Stream. The report can be found at the following link The report paints a bleak future if something dramatic were to happen to the Gulf Stream, so the Gulf Stream is something worth monitoring.

Technology Could Become a Liability in the End Times

I received a brochure from my cell phone service provider earlier this week announcing that I am eligible for a free phone upgrade if I renew my contract with them. I currently own a cell phone that practically is so obsolete that I think phones from ten years ago might have more technological capabilities than my phone. In addition, I might be the only 25 year old in a Western country that has never sent a text message from a cell phone.

Given my backwardness when it comes to cell phones and their uses, I was amazed to see the features and capabilities of the phones I was offered. These phones had television, video recording, Internet, social media, texting, and music playing capabilities. Reading about these phones not only made me realize how much technology has improved in the past ten years but also made me realize something startling about where we are heading in the future with technology.

Technological innovations like the Internet and the cell phone have arguably helped improve people’s daily lives. For instance, the Internet has greatly helped me research new information and I appreciate not having to search for a pay phone if I have to make a call when I’m not home. The downside with these technological innovations is that they are also making it increasingly difficult to maintain your privacy.

• As I mentioned last week, governing authorities can utilize your cell phone as a listening device so they can eavesdrop on your private conversations whether your phone is on or off. In addition, many cell phones can potentially give away your location with the GPS device that is installed on them.

• The Internet has got all sorts of privacy issues. Many websites track users’ activities and can basically figure out where you are located with the IP address of the computer you are using. I am often irked by Google when they try to give me search results that are specifically relevant to the area where I live.

I believe the biggest beneficiary of these technological innovations will ultimately not be you or me. The biggest beneficiary of these technological innovations will be the Antichrist because he will get to utilize these technologies to promote his agenda, monitor people, to hunt down those who oppose him.

• A few decades ago I imagine people thought that the Antichrist may one day be able to appear suddenly on television sets across the world. I also imagine people began to think that Antichrist could suddenly appear on people’s computer screens too after the computer and the Internet became widely used in people’s homes. Now with the cell phones capable of broadcasting television and playing video I can easily envision the Antichrist suddenly appearing on people’s cell phones too. The development of video and television on technology on cell phones is a going to be a huge boon for the Antichrist because he will be able to contact people who are nowhere close to a television set or a computer. Antichrist would be able communicate with a person trapped in middle of the desert if the person has a cell phone with them.

• If you are a person trying to hide from the Antichrist it is probably not the best idea in the world to call someone on your cell phone because someone you don’t like might try to listen in on your conversation. It might not even be a good idea to have a cell phone in your possession during the End Times because someone might hunt you down with the GPS device in the phone. The same goes for utilizing a computer to access the Internet…

In sum, technology may become a liability if you oppose the Antichrist and try to hide from the Antichrist because Antichrist is likely going to use technology to his fullest advantage and to your detriment. However, before that happens I am going to enjoy the benefits of our technological innovations because I do not want to live like someone from the seventeenth century just yet.

How Your Cell Phone Can Be a Tool of Government Surveillance

The topic of government surveillance is a sensitive one for many people because people throughout the world do not trust their government. As a result, it is not a complete surprise for people to hear about how their government is monitoring their activities or how their government can monitor their activities. Nevertheless, many people still get enraged whenever they hear examples of how their government is monitoring their activities.

Earlier this week a lot of people were angered by a headline about how it is legal in some U.S. states for government officials to install GPS devices underneath people’s car and track their car’s whereabouts without informing the people they monitor. While this recent revelation is startling, it is not the most erogenous example of secret government surveillance that I can think of.

A few years ago U.S. media reported about how the U.S. government has the ability to legally utilize American’s cell phone as a listening device whether it is on or off. Apparently some peoples’ cell phone has software installed that converts their phone into a microphone and transmitter. This microphone and transmitter enables the U.S. government to monitor any audio conversation that may occur nearby a programmed cell phone. Therefore, the U.S. government has the ability to monitor an American’s conversation if a cell phone is nearby (whether they actually monitor an ordinary citizen’s conversation is a different story). The lesson that should be taken from this is to always be careful with what you say because someone may be monitoring you.

• The lesson also applies to those of you living outside the U.S. because the U.S. is renowned for its relatively free society. If the relatively benign U.S. government utilizes a variety of methods to monitor their citizens’ activities I can only imagine the lengths that Australian, Asian, South American, and European governments go to monitor their citizens’ activities.

The Sun and the Bowl Judgments of Revelation 16

One of the major news headlines recently concerns a solar storm heading towards Earth. The solar storm has not wreaked havoc so far on Earth, but has enable some people in the Northern Hemisphere to see aurora displays in the nighttime sky.

Recently, scientists have suggested that the Earth may not be so fortunate in the future when there is a major solar storm. Scientists warn that a major solar flare storm could “result in the loss of power, water and communications on a global scale”.[1]

I mention this information because I believe the Book of Revelation indicates that Earth will be adversely impacted by a major solar flare in the future.

The seven bowl judgments represent the final element of the Wrath of God. The fourth bowl judgment mentions that the sun will scorch men with fire.

• Rev 16:8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
• Rev 16:9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

The sun is the aggressor when it uses the power it is given to scorch men with fire, so perhaps the sun will send a massive amount of solar energy towards Earth during this time, a solar flare.

• The fact that men will be scorched with great heat suggests this is not an ordinary solar flare. Something extraordinary has happened. Perhaps the solar flare is extraordinary because it is given power by a divine source to punish people on Earth or perhaps something has happened to Earth’s atmosphere leading up to this event, which has weakened the atmosphere’s ability to shield the earth from the solar energy (it could even be a combination of the two).

The description of the fifth bowl further strengthens the idea that Earth is going to be scorched by a major solar flare during the bowl judgments. The Antichrist’s kingdom is going to fall into complete darkness in the aftermath of the sun’s attack, which is consistent with the idea of the electrical grid being knocked out after a major solar flare.

• Rev 16:10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,
• Rev 16:11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and
• repented not of their deeds.

The sun’s activities run in an eleven year cycle on average. Sometimes the cycles are shorter (nine years) and sometimes the cycles run longer (fourteen years). This new solar cycle that we are now in took a few years longer than what scientists expected. In addition, the sun can send solar flares towards Earth before its solar maximum (like we have now). Therefore, it is difficult to use scientists’ projections of future solar cycle maximums to pinpoint when the bowl judgments will take place in the future.

Matt Simmons: Major Hurricane + Toxic Oil = Big Disaster in the Gulf

I have not written much about the BP Oil Spill because I saw little connection between this ongoing event and End Times prophecy. The BP Oil Spill is certainly a major environmental disaster, a disaster for those who are living on the Gulf Coast, an event that could impact the upcoming midterm elections in the U.S., and an event that will impact future American energy policy. However, I did not think it is an event that is more important than a likely major downturn in the global economy. The past couple of days, however, I have heard some information from an energy industry expert that is so alarming that I am compelled to share it with you in case you do live on the Gulf Coast or are following the BP Oil Spill closely.

Matt Simmons, author of Twilight in the Desert, expressed his concern late last week that many people could die as the result of a strong hurricane bringing up a large, growing layer of toxic oil that currently exists 4500 feet below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. The toxic oil layer contains lethal levels of methane which would probably kill virtually any creature that encounters it.

• Hurricanes would have the potential to bring up a toxic oil layer to the surface because they are weather systems that churn up water. Hurricanes absorb heat from the surface and in the process cause the water below the surface to rise up towards the surface. Slow moving hurricanes tend to churn the water the most because they are absorbing the heat from the same area for a long period of time. A strong, slow moving hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico like a Katrina or Rita would be disastrous because it would bring that toxic oil from the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico up to the surface and potentially bring that toxic oil well into land with its massive storm surge.

Simmons also proclaimed that he would evacuate his family if he lived along the Gulf Coast because of the potential threat that this toxic oil could have if it was brought inland. You can access the entire interview with Simmons at the following link

Currently there is a tropical wave north of Puerto Rico that has the potential to develop later this week into a tropical storm or hurricane. Although forecasting the intensity of tropical systems is very difficult to do, especially when trying to forecast the intensity of a storm several days from now, it is unlikely that it is going to be a storm that brings us a worst case scenario. However, the storm may cause some evacuations of people working on the oil spill because it is currently projected to be in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend potentially as a category one hurricane.

The concern is what may happen in August and September because that is the time of year when you get the strongest storms and the time of year when tropical waves are most prone to develop. Given the potential for a major loss of life, the BP Oil Spill certainly cannot be ignored nor can the weather.
