A Warning to Christians Who Warmly Accept Esoteric/New Age Teachings

Pre-Article Disclaimer for Newer Readers: If you are reading this blog for the first time or are not totally familiar with my work, I am a 100% Christian writer who analyzes things from a Christian point of view. I sometimes research into what the spiritual forces of evil are up to in hopes of gleaning information to help us Christians figure out what is going on or to figure out what Satan has planned. You can read more about why I dare consider these unbiblical sources at the following link Now on to the article...

There are Christians who warmly accept New Age/esoteric teachings and seek to integrate them into their religious/spiritual belief system. I know such people exist as I’ve seen a series of articles and a book from a late Methodist minister who sought to integrate New Age teachings into Christian teachings and teach Christians esoteric/New Age concepts using Christian terminology.

Today’s article is intended to alert people who warmly accept New Age/esoteric teachings that some major propagators of the teachings they follow portray Satan in such a positive light that one should seriously question who is the entity behind the teachings and information they propagate. For others, this article will demonstrate that Satan practically has his own public relations campaign going on right now for the hearts, minds, and souls of people.

Helena Blavatsky

Helena Blavatsky is the founder of modern day occultism and wrote several books under the direction the Ascended Masters (a group of spiritual beings mentioned in Ephesians 6:12 as the “spiritual wickedness in high places”). The teachings found in Blavatsky’s books serve as the underpinning on the New Age Movement and was one of Adolf Hitler’s, the seventh king of Revelation 17:10, favorite books. I mentioned in the previous blog post that Blavatsky actually praised Satan in her works. This statement cannot be refuted when you consider the following things Blavatsky wrote about Satan:

“Satan is the god of our planet, and the only god".[1]

"And now it stands proven that Satan, or Fiery Dragon, the "Lord of Phosphorus"...and Lucifer, or "Light-Bearer" is in us; it is our Mind, our Tempter, our Redeemer, our Intelligent Liberator and Saviour from pure animalism".[2]

Blavatsky described Satan in the most positive light that one possibly can if one is demented enough to try to spin something as negative as Satan into something resembling a positive. If the Ascended Masters communicated these words and others to Blavatsky, which is what many claim, then the Ascended Masters are guilty of endorsing Satan, himself, as an alternative to God.

Alice Bailey

Alice Bailey was a prolific writer of New Age teachings and whose work is highly-regarded in New Age circles. Bailey wrote twenty-four books under the direction of an Ascended Master named Djwhal Khul who supposedly gave Bailey the teachings telepathically. After reviewing some of Bailey’s work, I did not find a proactive statement about a figure named “Satan”. However, Bailey did allude to Satan when she wrote about Sanat Kumara, which another name for Satan. Hannah Newman, author of the “Rainbow Swastika”, summarizes Bailey’s teaching on Sanat Kumara (SK):

Although SK's level of enlightenment earned him the right to enter into "Nirvana", he instead made the "supreme sacrifice" of turning back to creation and taking the responsibility to create us into gods. Bailey relates that he "came down" to earth in the middle of the Lemurian age, taking physical form, and although he later returned to the spirit plane, he "has remained with us ever since." (_Initiation_, p.28-29).[3]

In other words, Bailey suggested that mankind is indebted to Sanat Kumara for leaving a glorious place to help man evolve spiritually. The false teaching that Sanat Kumara/Satan helped mankind is very similar to Blavatsky’s portrayal of Satan. If an Ascended Master named Djwhal Khul gave Bailey teachings (as many claim), then we have another case of the Ascended Masters attempting to portray Satan as an individual people should show gratitude towards.

Benjamin Creme

As many of you know, Benjamin Creme is the official spokesmen of Maitreya (the leader of the Ascended Masters). Creme claims to receive most of his information from a Himalayan-based Ascended Master (I think I’m getting close to identifying the name of this individual by the way) and he occasionally receives messages from Maitreya. Creme presents the same type of information as Blavatsky and Bailey, but in a far more clear/less threatening way. Therefore, one would expect that Creme’s characterization of Satan to be far less “offensive” to Christians than earlier characterizations…

In his section outlining the teachings of Maitreya, Creme attempts to address Christian’s concern about what 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 says in regard to Satan’s ability to masquerade as an angel of light and the idea that Maitreya could be Satan in disguise. Creme’s response is to accuse Christians of misunderstanding what Satan is and to claim that Satan is symbolic rather than a literal being:

“Satan is not a man but a symbol. He symbolizes our own separative, selfish, lower nature which, in the main, we hide by rationalizing it and seeing our motives (through the fog of illusion called glamour) as love, truth, brotherhood, etc., while they are nothing of the kind”.[4]

Relatively speaking, Creme’s response seems less “offensive” than Blavatsky, who you recall openly portrays Satan as a “redeemer”. Nevertheless, Creme falsely teaches that Satan does not exist. The opposite is true…Satan does exist and is our spiritual nemesis. For instance, a symbol cannot attempt to tempt the Son of God by offering all the kingdoms of the earth to Him nor can a symbol talk. An evil spiritual being can:

  • Mat 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
  • Mat 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
  • Mat 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
  • Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
  • Mat 4:5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
  • Mat 4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
  • Mat 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
  • Mat 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
  • Mat 4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
  • Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
  • Mat 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Remember that Christ warned us that Satan is the father of lies.

  • Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Given that Satan is our spiritual nemesis, you should expect him to lie about his own nature. In order for Satan to attract followers he must present himself in a completely different way than the Bible portrays him to be. The quotes included in this article show that an attempt is being made to remake Satan’s image. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who will believe Satan’s lies and ignore or even reject the truth.

Finally, if you are a Christian who warmly incorporates New Age/esoteric teachings into your spiritual/religious belief system, how can you reconcile your acceptance of these teachings with now knowing that some of the major propagators of these teachings portray Satan in such a blasphemous manner? Rhetorical question…
